Blog Posts

You can’t fail until you start

I’ve had many blogs and journals over the years, but I’m trying to be more purposeful in my efforts as I get older. Writing is something I enjoy both as a creative outlet and as a form of catharsis so it seemed logical to make a new repository for my musings. Since this is a new project, I suppose an introduction is in order. My name is Josh and I’m a high school math teacher living in Houston. I moved to the gulf coast five years ago, having previously lived in the desert southwest.

What will I be discussing in this blog? Who fucking knows! It’s going to be a wild ride, I can promise that much. My neuroses are too numerous to list, but they certainly keep things interesting. Anxiety and depression are the stars of the show, but I have many other undesirable personality traits which will no doubt make cameos from time to time.

Being somewhat obsessed with control, financial independence is a primary goal of mine. It’s not realistic to consider myself part of the FIRE crowd right now, but maybe I’ll get there some day. I’m searching for a property to house hack in the next few months to a year and I plan on covering aspects of that journey. Several friends have also asked me to detail my endless misadventures in dating, so that will likely be featured as well.

Ultimately, this is a vanity project much like everything we do. Hopefully I’ll have the self-awareness necessary to keep that in mind and not take it or myself too seriously. If someone finds value in what I share, all the better, but I’m not so naive as to think that my experience is in any way unique. With that sobering thought in mind, I’ll bring this entry to a close. Next time we meet I’m going to talk extensively about my penis.
